RESERVATIONS AND ACCESS
Restaurant and beach club reservations in Punta Cana
The good tables in high season are gone weeks ahead, and the beach clubs worth the trip are the ones that fill first. This is the part of a stay that rewards planning.
Why booking on the day rarely works here
Punta Cana is a resort destination, and that has a particular effect on restaurants. A large share of visitors eat inside their hotel, so the independent places genuinely worth leaving for are fewer than the size of the destination suggests. In December, January and around Easter, those places are full.
Beach clubs behave the same way. A day bed at Juanillo in Cap Cana, or at one of the clubs along Bavaro, is a limited thing on a Saturday in February. So is a good table at sunset anywhere with a view of it.
Booking ahead is not about status. It is about a fixed number of seats, and about the fact that the people who called three weeks ago are sitting in them.
For a birthday or a proposal, the table is only part of it. Where we are useful beyond calling early is in knowing which places have quietly declined, which have a new chef worth the detour, and which one will suit a group with three children under ten. That changes month to month, and it is not visible from a review site.

What is arranged for you
- Restaurant tables, including the ones that book out weeks ahead
- Beach club day beds and cabanas, in Cap Cana and along Bavaro
- Sunset tables, which are a separate problem from dinner tables
- Nightlife tables and entry
- Golf tee times at the courses around Punta Cana and Cap Cana
- Spa appointments
- Transport to and from every booking, so nobody has to drive
- Changes and cancellations handled on your behalf during the stay
How we plan a week of eating
We ask for your dates, the size of the group, and one useful piece of information: whether there are evenings you want to stay in with a private chef. Most people over plan a week away and end up cancelling. Five good evenings beat seven mediocre ones.
Sunset and dinner are booked separately. The light goes at around six thirty in winter and closer to seven in summer, and the tables with a view of it are a different queue from the tables at eight.
If you are travelling with children, tell us their ages. It is the single detail that decides which places will be a pleasure and which will be an hour of stress.
Once the week is set you have the list, and if something needs to change during the stay we change it. That is far easier for us than for you, and it is the part people underestimate.

Questions we are asked about reservations
- How far ahead should we book restaurants?
- In December, January and around Easter, three to four weeks for the places that matter. Outside high season a week is usually enough.
- Can you get tables at places that say they are full?
- Sometimes, and honestly, sometimes not. Relationships help and so does calling early. We will tell you which it is rather than promise and fail.
- Do you book inside the resorts too?
- Yes, although most resorts handle their own restaurants for guests. Where we add something is outside the resort, which is where the more interesting eating tends to be.
- What about nightlife?
- Tables and entry at the main venues can be arranged. Tell us the night and the size of the group, and whether you want to be near the music or away from it.
- Is there a charge if we cancel?
- It depends entirely on the venue. Some hold a card, most do not. We will tell you which ones have a policy worth knowing about before you commit.
